Why? Because I can. That's why.

God Bless the United States of America. And what the hell, God bless this guy too.

All that is missing is the beer can in the other hand.

Because really, I wouldn't want to live in a country where it was forbidden to drive your ATV through some(body else's?) field and empty your handgun into the air. I mean shit, the A-rabs have been doing it for years; they just ride camels. Or is it horses? Whatever, those turbans still look dumb. And don't even think of raising my taxes! Or teaching my daughter about how to avoid getting pregnant. Did I mention that gays are going to hell?

Sorry, got carried away there. Where was I? Oh yeah, God bless this camo-wearing, gun-toting epitome of all that is great about our country. Seriously.

A dry day! With glee I hopped on my commuter and plunged down Capitol Hill to work.

ASIDE – I think I have one of the coolest commutes around. I get to drop down Interlaken (which is currently closed to cars!) and then take the trail under 520 thus avoiding traffic and finally I get to ride pas all the cherry blossom on the UW campus. If I ever complain slap me.

Driving down to the race it rained! We were all like, "It's raining, guess what day it is..." Thank goodness it cleared up by the time we got to the track and there wasn't even any standing water. yes!

The field was big again, this is great! Keller Rohrback was there, Starbucks was there, Audi was there, Garage Racing was there, Old Town Bicycle was there, Cucina Fresca was there and of course we were there.

There were a few probing attacks early on but nothing with any sincere effort behind it. When the bunch is this big you need to commit or you WILL be caught. As I was looking for the right combo to go so I could join them I was impressed with how often Chandler L (Audi) was trying to make it happen... way to go.

The first prime came and went and finally a move formed that looked promising. It had riders from almost every team in it including Dave H but no, it was brought back in pretty short order – like one lap.

With a three laps to go I tried to get away and was joined by no less than three Garage riders but that was doomed to fail as we needed at least one other team and for some reason people were not willing to ride hard enough.

With the bell coming up I got to the front as we climbed the hill and at the top looked back to see the field was pretty much single file. Knowing that this finish is good for Dave I had nothing to lose so we for it. And I was joined by none other than Tricia B. Nice. We proceeded to ride away from the field around the right hand turn.

ASIDE – Tricia had been in at least one other move of note tonight.

Sadly we didn't have enough horsepower to stay away and got caught at the top of the descent. Rats. From here I drifted to the back as everyone swarmed the front vying for position. In the end Dave got 2nd and was beaten by this guy from Tacoma.

Note to self: watch this guy next week.

Good times and good racing. I still don't have the strength to power away from this pack but 1) the pack is faster than in years past and 2) I am slowly getting stronger. I also need to attack more to create more opportunities for myself. Duh.

Managed to get on the rollers this AM and I was glad for it. For sure I feel much better at the end of an easy roller session than at the beginning and isn't that what an active recovery ride is supposed to be? Check.

Shelley and I did our core routine again and today it was hard. Every single exercise. Funny (read: not very funny at all) how that happens, I have no idea why.

Lunch time saw me at the IMA again for a routine that I am really enjoying. I hit the matts in the group exercise room for some dedicated stretching and then it's into the sauna for some ultra relaxation. If it was just a few degrees less hot I swear I could fall asleep... Man does the sauna make me thirsty!

The stretching has made me realize how not limber I really am in spite of me previously telling people that I am kinda flexible. Obviously my head has been firmly stuck up my own ass for quite some time. But I'm slowly getting better and I hope it will do my back and IT band some good meaning less pain on the bike and fewer injuries when I start running in the fall.

That list of stuff I need to do just to do the stuff I like is getting longer... :(

Since Shelley and I were hitting Albert Lee to shop appliances today I was not able to race or go out side (in the sun!) to ride so the next best thing was an indoor session with a friend. Luckily Ryan D was up for it. Yeah Ryan!

We did what I think is one of the best workouts Seattle Multisport has to offer.

I managed to ride through the first three okay but it was not feeling so hot... The last time I did this workout I set my threshold at 340 so wanting to improve I started higher. Oops. After each of the 1.5 minute intervals I had to not just slow down but stop pedaling altogether. Not so good. I did not have to lower my power but technically I did not really complete the workout as I was quitting during each rest period. Probably I was not as rested as last time and mentally I was not tip top. You really have to show up for these rearing to go if you want to hit it hard.

I was SO grateful for Ryan's presence today as I would not have been able to bring myself to hit the trainer alone. I also forgot my bottle and he kindly let me partake of his.
