Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper Carbon 29 Singlespeed

CIMG8847

Frame 2011 Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper Carbon 29 Singlespeed
Size 21? The biggest, whatever that is…
Fork 2011 RockShox Reba S29 with carbon steerer (90 mm of travel)
Components 180 mm Lightning Cycle Dynamics carbon cranks (I removed all the stickers)
Gears 32 x 20
Wheels 32-hole DT hubs (rear is singlespeed-specific)
Wheelsmith butted 14g spokes
aluminum spoke nipples
Stan's NoTubes ZTR Crest rims (I removed all the stickers)
hand built by me
Schwalbe 29 x 2.25 Racing Ralph tubeless tires
Weight 20.5 lb.
Notes The frame comes designed for a 140 mm disk brake rotor in the rear so I installed an adaptor and am running 160 mm rotors front and rear.

This is my primary/only mountain bike as of this writing.

Thanks to eBay I finally own a carbon fiber bicycle. What's more interesting than why it took me so long to get one is why I wanted one so bad in the first place when steel, aluminum and titanium have been serving me extremely well for decades…

This bike with suspension is 1.5 lb. lighter than my old mountain bike which was fully rigid, had a carbon fiber fork and really light wheels with folding tires! Holy crap. Technology marches on.

  1. Very nice! What model of Lightning cranks are those? I looked at them before for my SS (2011 GF Superfly) but couldn't find a SS-specific one.

    Thanks!

  2. @Pampa - as far as I know, Lighting only makes one model of cranks but they sell them with various length bottom bracket spindles and various spiders depending on what you want to use them for and what kind of frame they will be installed on. Give them a call, they can get you exactly what you need.
