Madrona repeats

Incredibly it was not raining when I woke up so I decided to go for a ride.

Not only was it dry out it was also warmer than I thought it would be… This is that time of year where you get all geared up to brave the elements and then it's 50 degrees. D'oh…! That's kinda what happened today. My wind vest came off in about five miles and my gloves came off for the last hill. BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING.

I left home a little earlier than last week so I had time for one more hill. Nice.

I again alternated in the saddle and out of the saddle for the first four and on the last one I rode in the saddle to the first bend and then shifted up, stood up and went as hard as I could to the summit. As hard as I cold felt pretty slow on this bike. Or maybe it's just me. :) Then I just spun up the remainder of the climb and up Union and home.

The sunrise was freaking amazing today. I saw the first rays of light descending from the first hill and on each subsequent climb it got brighter and more spectacular. So, so beautiful.

Those two food bars I had when I woke up did not really agree with me… too many oats or something. Blech. Gotta try something different next time because if not for that flat warm-up I would have had some issues on the climb.

Not sure what is causing that spike in heart rate… obviously something is amiss but I'm not sure what. It's also interesting that after my max effort hill my heart rate was only 161 bpm. I guess my max effort was not very long come to think of it.

At some point on my way back from Seward Park this guy going the other way shouts hello and waves. I guess he felt some sort of kinship with another early morning cyclist? It was so dark at this time that there was no way he could have recognized me and he was a full-on recreational commuter type - not that there is anything wrong with this type of rider - and I did not recognize anything about him. Kind of funny how people feel like they are part of a club when they do stuff like ride to work early in the morning.
